The mission of Torrington's Office of Economic Development is to promote the City in an effort to recruit and retain businesses, create local jobs, and enhance the tax base. The Office acts as a liaison between the business community, City departments, State agencies, and other economic development and community organizations.
The functions of the Office of Economic Development are:
Provide information to potential and existing businesses, such as demographics, licensing, business permitting, finance packages and incentives
Maintain a database of available commercial and industrial space
Provide technical assistance to small business start-ups
Actively market Technology Park, the public/private industrial park, as an ideal place to do businesses
Assist with event planning and coordinate downtown activities
Create and manage marketing materials
Maintain the City's web site, and regularly update the online community calendar
Another key component to the Economic Development program is the current Downtown Redevelopment project designed to capitalize on the City's growth. This redevelopment will help serve to attract residents and visitors to enjoy shopping, cultural opportunities and the historic character of Downtown Torrington.
